Research Mission

Modern combination antiretroviral therapy (ART) can durably prevent HIV replication but is not curative.  The DARE Collaboratory’s mission is to harness the power of the adaptive and innate immune system to reduce the overall size of the HIV reservoir during ART and to control any residual virus after ART is interrupted.

We believe that elimination or control of HIV infection will require a robust immune response that is persistent and functional. These responses need to be in the right place at the right time. We aim to develop a short-term, safe intervention that will enable natural control of the virus in absence of any therapy (a "remission"). This would spare people living with HIV the burden of lifelong medication, increased stigma and the necessity for uninterrupted health care.
